For half a century the Williamson County Art Guild has been a vibrant hub for artists and art lovers across the county. Founded in 1976, the volunteer‑run organization now counts about 200 members and recently opened its own gallery on Rock Street in Georgetown, a space that deepens ties between creators and the community.
Growth and Community Impact
Past president Lynn Kessel reflected on the guild’s evolution, noting that as Georgetown has grown, the guild has become “more sophisticated” and a larger presence in local life. The guild’s projects often partner with businesses to bring public artwork to streets, parks and schools, turning everyday spaces into galleries of local talent.
Publicity chair Leslie Bradstreet described the guild’s reach as “tentacles everywhere into this community,” emphasizing how the organization connects people through shared creative endeavors. After two decades of membership, Kessel said the friendships forged through the guild are what keep her returning, adding that the gallery provides a regular meeting place where members can collaborate and build lasting relationships.
Gallery Opening and Recent Successes
The new Georgetown gallery, opened in October 2023, has already become a focal point for exhibitions and events. A 2024 show featuring students from Georgetown High School and East View High School was a milestone: every piece of artwork sold, marking the first time the guild sold out an entire exhibition and the first time many of the young artists earned sales from their work.
Celebrating 50 Years
To commemorate the guild’s 50th anniversary, members are hosting a “Peace, Love & Art Affair,” a disco‑themed party that will take place on September 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the gallery’s address, 445 E. Morrow St., Georgetown. Admission is $35 and the evening will feature music, refreshments, a silent auction and a quick‑draw artist who will create works live for guests.
In addition to the party, the guild is unveiling a “Legacy Exhibit” that will open on November 14. The 100‑piece collection will be displayed both at the Georgetown Public Library and the guild’s gallery, honoring the many artists, volunteers and supporters who have contributed to the organization over five decades.
Looking Ahead
Looking forward, the guild plans to expand its outreach, continue partnering with local businesses, and provide more opportunities for emerging artists, especially youth, to showcase their work. By fostering creativity and community bonds, the Williamson County Art Guild aims to keep enriching the cultural fabric of Georgetown and the surrounding county for years to come.
