Army Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton’s widow, Mia Gonzalez-Swinton, shared a heartfelt tribute to her late husband, who was killed in a fatal drone mission in Iraq. Swinton, 30, was conducting a controlled demolition of a downed Iranian drone when he lost his life, leaving behind his wife and their two young children, ages 6 and 4.
A Devoted Father and Husband
Gonzalez-Swinton remembered her husband as a loving father and husband who cared deeply about his family and country. She recalled the moment she found out about his death, saying her stomach dropped and she felt like she was watching herself. The loss still feels surreal as she and their children begin adjusting to life without him.
Swinton will receive the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge, and will be posthumously promoted to staff sergeant. His widow hopes people remember not only his military service but also the man he was away from the battlefield.
