The White House has formally requested $87.6 billion, primarily to replenish the Pentagon after the U.S. war against Iran. This request was submitted to Congress at a challenging time, as many lawmakers have expressed objections to further military action.
Request Details
The Office of Management and Budget sent the supplemental spending request, which includes $67 billion for the Department of Defense for what it described as urgent needs related to the war against Iran. These needs include funding for military personnel, readiness expenses, and operational costs to rebuild stocks.
In addition to the funding for the war, the request also includes aid to American farmers, help for the Ebola crisis in Africa, and other domestic needs, such as restoration projects in Washington, D.C.
OMB Director Russ Vought urged Congress to take action on these requests as soon as possible.
