White House Report Criticizes Smithsonian Leadership

A recent White House report has criticized the leadership of the Smithsonian Institution, specifically the National Museum of American History, as radical activists who cannot be trusted to tell America’s story honestly. The report, released by the White House Domestic Policy Council, claims that the institution has been taken over by an extreme, activist ideology that seeks to transform the country.

Background

This report comes as part of President Trump’s efforts to overhaul some of Washington’s most sacred cultural and historic institutions. In March, Trump signed an executive order targeting funding for programs that advanced ‘divisive narratives’ and ‘improper ideology.’ The order aimed to promote a more patriotic and unifying view of American history.

Historian Lonnie Bunch, the Smithsonian’s current secretary, has emphasized the importance of understanding America’s history and its ongoing impact on the country. ‘The notion of being a more perfect union, not the perfect union, is really what motivates me,’ Bunch said in a recent interview.

Reaction

Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania has accused Trump and his allies of trying to ‘rewrite history.’ Shapiro emphasized the importance of presenting a full and accurate account of American history, allowing the public to draw their own conclusions.

The White House report, however, argues that the National Museum of American History has become too focused on promoting a radical, activist agenda, rather than providing a truthful and inspiring portrayal of American history.
