Tim Moffitt, have been mentioned as potential candidates. Corbin has decided not to run, citing his commitment to serving on the governor’s Helene recovery task force and his role as state Senate education chair.

Moffitt, on the other hand, is considering a congressional run. He said he would talk to leaders and neighbors about a potential candidacy in the coming days. Other state legislators who could be options include Rep. Jennifer Balkcom, Sen. Ralph Hise, and Jake Johnson.

Challenges Ahead

The new nominee will face significant challenges, including a short window to campaign and a well-funded Democratic opponent in Jamie Ager. Ager has raised over $3 million and has about $2.1 million cash on hand, according to campaign finance data. The Republican nominee will need to work hard to raise name recognition and share their platform with voters across the district’s 15 counties.
