West Palm Beach is in the midst of a building boom, with a citizen group tracking 67 development projects across the city. The group, Save West Palm Beach, is pushing for a two-year pause on new major requests for height, zoning, and density.
Development Projects Underway
The group’s interactive map and the city’s own development tracker show dozens of projects already under construction or approved. This includes buildings planned or under construction at 19, 21, 23, 25, 30, and 32 stories.
Save West Palm Beach co-founder Fatima Sanandaji stated that the number of projects has grown to 67, with four completed and some additional projects being discovered daily.
Pause on New Development Requests
The group is seeking a two-year pause on new major development requests to allow the city to evaluate the cumulative impact of the development already approved and under construction. This pause would not affect projects that are already approved or under construction.
Co-founder Sue Fuller emphasized that the group is not against progress but wants to ensure that the city is clear on the impact of the development. The city has not taken a position on the proposed pause, stating that it remains committed to a thoughtful approach considering infrastructure, economic development, quality of life, and community needs.
