West Palm Beach Car Theft

A Broward County man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he was involved in a series of car break-ins and the theft of a luxury vehicle in West Palm Beach. According to an arrest report, officers responded May 25, 2026, to a parking area along Washington Road after a woman reported that her Mercedes SUV had been stolen. Her husband also told the West Palm Beach Police Department his vehicle had been burglarized overnight.

Investigation Details

Investigators said several other vehicles in the parking lot were also broken into. There were no signs of forced entry, suggesting the cars may have been left unlocked. Surveillance video showed a white Volkswagen SUV entering the area in the early morning hours. A person was later seen walking through the lot, entering a vehicle and then driving away in the stolen Mercedes, according to police.

License plate reader data showed the stolen vehicle traveling from West Palm Beach into Lake Worth and later into Broward County. The vehicle was eventually recovered in Pompano Beach. Detectives identified Joshua Burroughs Jr. of Deerfield Beach as a suspect. Police said Burroughs was driving the Volkswagen connected to the case and admitted to being involved. He told investigators he drove a friend to the area and later followed the stolen vehicle.

Authorities said Burroughs knew the Mercedes was stolen and acknowledged being inside it at one point. Investigators also found photos of the stolen vehicle on his phone. Police said Burroughs and another person traveled from Broward County to Palm Beach County with the intent to commit burglaries.

Burroughs faces charges including burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, grand theft auto and criminal mischief. He was taken into custody after briefly fleeing from officers and later being found inside a Deerfield Beach home. The investigation is ongoing.
