Couples can choose the venue, the flowers, and even the exact time they walk down the aisle. But they cannot order perfect weather. Now, some are hiring concierge meteorologists to help them prepare for nearly anything Mother Nature might bring.
Concierge Meteorology Services
For one wedding reception inside a cave in Bend, Oregon, heavy rain was moving toward the venue. If the storm shifted south, water could have flooded the entire setup. Andrew Leavitt, founder of Ironic, a concierge meteorology company, tracked the storm cell mile-by-mile with his team of meteorologists and event planners. Although it passed within two miles of the venue, the wedding went ahead as planned.
Leavitt launched Ironic after years of managing large concerts and festivals where dangerous weather could force organizers to change plans quickly. For weddings, his team begins monitoring conditions about a week before the event. Meteorologists watch for lightning, rain, wind, and extreme heat, sending regular forecasts and tracking conditions live on the wedding day.
NBC 5 meteorologist Ryann Jones said couples can conduct some of their own weather research before selecting a date. Historical climate information can show the typical temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind conditions for a particular location and time of year. Wind can be especially important for outdoor ceremonies and photography.
