Deputies from the Webster County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of gunfire at the 1700 block of Johnson Avenue in rural Webster County around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A caller told officers that a person had been shot and that the shooter was still on the property.
When deputies arrived, they found a male victim with a gunshot wound. First‑aid responders performed life‑saving measures before transporting the injured man to a nearby hospital for further care.
Approximately fifteen minutes later, a joint search effort involving the Iowa State Patrol and Fort Dodge Police Department located a second male who matched the description of the alleged shooter. He was taken into custody for questioning.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. “This is an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public,” the office said in a statement.
