Shane Peterman, the Producing Artistic Director of WaterTower Theatre in Addison, Texas, has departed the company to become CEO of The Augusta Players and The Imperial Theatre in Augusta, Georgia.
New Challenge
Peterman will lead both organizations as they work towards a proposed merger. The Imperial Theatre, which opened in 1918 as a vaudeville showcase, is the only operating historic theatre in Augusta. The Augusta Players is a non-profit community theatre organization founded in 1945.
Peterman’s appointment concludes a national search involving board leadership, search committee members, staff, and community stakeholders representing both organizations. He expressed his excitement about the opportunity and the warm welcome he received from the community.
Peterman’s years at WaterTower Theatre were marked by financial difficulties and a global pandemic. Despite these challenges, the theatre survived and even thrived under his leadership. As he starts his new job, Peterman reflected on what he will miss most about WaterTower Theatre, citing the people, including patrons, board members, staff, and artists.
In the wake of Peterman’s departure, WaterTower Theatre has announced changes to its Season 30 schedule. The theatre has made the financial decision to cancel Wonderland, which was scheduled to close the 30th season this October.
