Washington Commanders Begin 2026 Season Preparations with First OTA Practice

The Washington Commanders have started their journey towards the 2026 NFL season with their first Organized Team Activities (OTAs) practice held at the BigBear.ai Performance Center in Ashburn, Virginia. This marks an important step for the team as they aim to establish a solid foundation for the upcoming season.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels returned to the field, leading a roster that includes newly signed rookies, free agents, and key returning players. The team is also under the guidance of two new coordinators, who are stepping into their roles for the first time. This blend of fresh talent and experienced players is expected to set the tone for the Commanders as they prepare for the challenges ahead.

Veteran cornerback Mike Sainristil emphasized the importance of starting strong, stating, “Every year is a different year, so the standard has to be recaptured from the jump. You have to refocus yourself going into a new season – whether you have a good year, whether you have a down year. For us, it’s just ‘how can we form the best bond possible right now,’ so that when it comes to later in the season, we’re not worried about any potential cracks in culture, we’re worried about, ‘did we have a good foundation set in the offseason?’ We’re just building those daily habits…and making sure that we put our best foot forward, each and every single day.”

The Commanders are looking to capitalize on their near-perfect veteran attendance and an upgraded defensive line as they progress through their OTAs. The focus during these sessions is on forming strong team bonds and developing daily habits that will contribute to their success throughout the season.

Building a Strong Foundation

As the Commanders continue their OTAs, the emphasis remains on creating a cohesive team environment. The integration of new players and staff is crucial, and the team is committed to ensuring that everyone is on the same page. The practices are designed to foster communication and teamwork, which are essential components for any successful football team.

With the 2026 season on the horizon, the Washington Commanders are determined to lay the groundwork for a successful year. Their efforts during these early practices will be pivotal in shaping the team’s performance as they aim to make a significant impact in the NFL.
