The Warrick Humane Society is counting down the days until its move into a brand‑new shelter, with doors set to open this Saturday. To ensure a smooth transition from the old facility, the organization is calling on local volunteers to serve as temporary foster homes for animals.
Why temporary fosters are needed
Executive Director Lindsey Hagedorn explained that short‑term fosters—typically about a week—will help move animals out of the old building while staff become familiar with the new shelter’s layout and cleaning procedures. “We can get some of the animals in the old building into a home for a little bit so we can get our staff acclimated with the new shelter and the new cleaning procedures and not have an entirely packed shelter full of animals while trying to navigate all the newness of the shelter,” Hagedorn said.
Grand opening festivities
The society plans a full day of family‑friendly activities on opening day, inviting residents to celebrate the new facility and learn more about adoption and volunteer opportunities. Attendees can expect tours, pet‑related games, and information booths highlighting the shelter’s services.
How to help
Community members interested in providing a temporary foster home can contact the Warrick Humane Society directly. Volunteers will receive guidance on animal care, feeding, and any special needs during the short foster period.
By stepping in as foster caregivers, locals will play a vital role in easing the transition for both animals and staff, ensuring the new shelter opens ready to serve the community effectively.
