Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a supporter of the Zohran Mamdani socialist view, campaigned alongside U.S. Senate candidate Roy Cooper on Saturday night at the annual convention of the North Carolina Democrats.

Cooper’s Platform

Cooper faces Republican Michael Whatley and Libertarian Shannon Bray on Nov. 3. Cooper said, “I believe our state needs leaders in Washington who are actually looking out for the people.” He also emphasized the need to roll back tariffs that are crushing farmers and small businesses.

Warren, who has been traversing the country in support of various Democratic candidates, tied the rising costs of groceries, gasoline, rent, utilities, and healthcare to Republicans, specifically to second-term Republican President Donald Trump.

Democratic Socialism on the Rise

The Democratic Party is experiencing an ideological tussle for control, with Democratic socialism gaining momentum. The Democratic Socialists of America have had several primary wins in 2026, including incumbent U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York’s 14th Congressional District.

The North Carolina state Supreme Court race is also a key election, with incumbent Democratic Justice Anita Earls facing a challenge from former state Rep. Sarah Stevens, R-Surry.
