Lake Mary rolled past Washington State 14-0 in the Little League World Series opener, earning the right to represent the Southeast in the tournament. The team from Lake Mary won its first game in explosive fashion, combining timely hitting with a slew of errors by Washington State.
Game Highlights
Callie Ousley powered the first inning with a two-run single, while Kaylee Whitlock’s fly ball to center field popped out of the center fielder’s glove, allowing two more runs to score. Chloe Cheek also drove in a run. Six runs punctuated the second inning, highlighted by Brynn Fieser’s two-run double into the left-center-field gap.
Zoey Brandon, Ousley, and Kylie Green also drove in runs in the inning, extending the lead to 10-0. In the third, Cheek doubled over the left fielder’s head and scored on Parker Gorondy’s groundout. Avery Little delivered again in the top of the 4th, tripling off the tip of the third baseman’s glove and into the left-field corner.
Fieser drove her in, and Ousley scored on Green’s sacrifice fly. The scoring continued when Karissa Edghill slid home on a passed ball. What sealed the win for Southeast was Cheek’s dominant performance in the circle, striking out seven batters and allowing only two hits over four innings.
