Walmart has announced a recall of over 3,000 tomato soup kits sold in 29 states due to potential listeria contamination. The recalled product, Private-label Marketside Tomato Bisque soup kits, was distributed between June 30 and July 7.
Affected States
The recall affects the following states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.
The recalled product is packaged in a wrapped tray with a best-by or use-by date of August 22. Around 3,240 total kits were recalled. Kettle Cuisine, the company that manufactures the soup kits, says it has received no confirmed reports of illness with the product.
Consuming products contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause a listeria infection, which primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.
