Walking is a great way to improve your health and longevity. Recent findings confirm the amazing power of walking to protect your health. For example, a study found that engaging in a walk after eating helps improve post-meal blood sugar control. Another study found that a quick walk a few times a day will boost heart health.
The Benefits of Walking
Walking 10 minutes or more daily can increase healthy longevity. The more you walk, the healthier you will be. If you are sedentary, start slow and low. You will reap benefits. Those of you doing 7,000 steps and aiming for a healthier weight, up your count to 8,500. And once you’re comfortable with that, soar to 10,000 a day.
Remember to provide your body with optimal fuel and protect yourself from injury by stretching before and after you walk. Health pioneer Michael Roizen, M.D., is chief wellness officer emeritus at the Cleveland Clinic and author of four No. 1 New York Times bestsellers.
