Alders in Connecticut are seeking answers after discovering that hundreds of voters were assigned to the wrong state House of Representatives districts. City Democratic Registrar of Voters Shannel Evans stated that she is confident the issues have been corrected, but alders are not convinced.
Voter Registration Errors
An analysis by the Secretary of the State’s office found that at least 432 addresses were assigned to the wrong state House district, affecting at least 744 registered voters as of May. Evans attributed the error to the redistricting process, which is conducted by parcel, not address, and involves manual entry of street information into the Connecticut Voter Registration System (CVRS).
Registrars are working with the city’s IT department to identify affected addresses and notify residents who may have voted in the wrong district. However, alders are skeptical about the process, citing concerns about the lack of transparency and the potential for future errors.
One alder, Sarah Miller, shared her personal experience of being assigned to the wrong district despite living in the same location. She emphasized the importance of accurate voter registration and the need for a more efficient system to prevent such errors.
