Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha recently appeared on ‘CBS News Sunday Morning’ to discuss Vance’s upcoming book ‘Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.’ During the interview, Usha revealed that conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death last year had a profound impact on their family’s decision to have a fourth child.
A Conversation About Faith and Family
Vance wrote in his book about sitting with Kirk’s wife Erika on the day of Kirk’s death, where she expressed regret over having only two children with Charlie. This conversation had a significant effect on both JD and Usha, as they had previously discussed having another child.
Usha stated that Erika’s words ‘really heightened JD’s sense that he’d been talking about this for a while, this sense that there was this possibility of having another kid whom he could love as much as the three that we had.’ She also mentioned that it ‘really did crystallize for [him], that sense that if you could have that other child, then you would have nothing to regret.’ The Vances announced Usha’s pregnancy in January, and the baby is due in July.
Vance’s book, which details his journey to find faith in God after feeling lost as a young man, is set to release on June 16. The conversation with Erika Kirk served as a reminder to the Vances of the importance of family and faith in their lives.
