Feeling overwhelmed and stressed can be a common experience for many of us. According to psychotherapist Niro Feliciano, taking a moment to intentionally reset our body and mind can be beneficial. Feliciano suggests starting with a simple slow breathing exercise during transition periods, such as when getting home from work or when noticing anxiety picking up.
Benefits of Slowing Down
Slowing down intentionally allows us to practice mindfulness, particularly in moments of awe or gratitude. Taking just 30 seconds to soak up the moment and appreciate where we are can have numerous benefits for our emotional and mental health. Feliciano recommends incorporating slowing down into our day in a way that makes sense for each individual, whether through tai chi-inspired movements or taking a few intentionally slow, deep breaths.
When our lives are feeling extra busy, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. However, taking the time to reset our nervous system will help us navigate those stressful moments and allow us to enjoy the quieter ones. By finding a way to slow down and be mindful, we can improve our overall well-being and feel more grounded in our daily lives.
