President Donald Trump announced that vandals damaged the recently renovated reflecting pool near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. The pool, which was part of a $14.8 million restoration project, was vandalized with chemicals, according to Trump.
Investigation Underway
Law enforcement is actively investigating the incident, and Trump stated that most of the algae that had grown in the pool had been removed. The vandalized area is expected to be repaired by next week.
The incident occurred just weeks after the completion of the restoration project, which included a new ‘American flag blue’ bottom. However, the pool had been facing scrutiny due to peeling paint and algae growth.
Trump also mentioned that the National Park Service and contractors had deployed chemicals and ozone nanobubbles to help mitigate the algae growth. Workers used a swimming pool-style vacuum system to remove algae from the bottom of the pool.
