A Vancouver woman, Winn Grisich, has expressed frustration over being required to continue paying for her dog’s wellness plan at Banfield Pet Hospital, despite the dog’s passing. Grisich’s dog died two weeks ago at the Salmon Creek Banfield Pet Hospital, but she was informed that she would have to pay $62.95 per month for the plan until September.
Contractual Obligations
According to Grisich, the contract states that the provider is entitled to retain or recover all monthly installments that have previously been paid or become due, even in the event of the pet’s death. Grisich has reached out to her local representatives, John Lee and Stephanie McClintock, who are on the Consumer Affair Committee, to bring attention to this issue.
Grisich believes that the plan should end when the pet dies, similar to how car insurance works. She hopes that a law can be passed to protect pet owners from being charged for services they no longer need.
