The US State Department has updated its Level 2 ‘Exercise Increased Caution’ advisory for the Turks and Caicos Islands due to crime.
Criminal Activity
The advisory notes that Providenciales, the main tourist destination, is where most crime occurs. There have been reports of sexual assaults and petty crime, especially in popular tourist areas.
Visitors may also encounter aggressive vendors and scams, including offers of ‘free’ gifts that lead to demands for money. The State Department warns that police resources may be limited to investigate crimes.
The advisory also reminds travelers that firearms and ammunition are banned on the islands, and those laws are strictly enforced.
