The US Treasury’s anti-money laundering chief, Andrea Gacki, is leaving her position to join Citigroup as the bank’s global head of sanctions. Gacki has been the director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) since 2023 and will remain in her current role for several weeks to ensure a smooth transition.
Background
Gacki has spent 25 years in government service, working at the Treasury and the Department of Justice. She will start her new role at Citi on October 1 and join the bank’s Independent Compliance Risk Management leadership team. In her new position, Gacki will help clients navigate the complex sanctions landscape.
Brent McIntosh, Citi’s chief legal officer and corporate secretary, praised Gacki’s experience and leadership, saying she is well-respected in both the banking industry and government. McIntosh previously worked alongside Gacki during the first Trump administration.
Transition
The Treasury has appointed Jenna Casanova, a career Treasury official and former FBI forensic accountant, as the acting director of FinCEN. Casanova has worked on efforts to combat illicit finance and coordinated policies across FinCEN, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, and other Treasury offices.
