US Soccer Star Cristian Roldan Plays Near Hometown

Cristian Roldan, a midfielder for the United States soccer team, will play in the 2026 World Cup about 15 miles from his hometown of Pico Rivera in eastern Los Angeles County. Roldan’s family, including his parents Ana and Cesar, will be in attendance to support him.

Roldan’s Journey to the World Cup

Roldan’s path to soccer greatness began in his backyard, where his father made a goal from PVC pipes. He led El Rancho High School to a Southern Section Division III title and a 29-2-1 record. Roldan went on to play for the University of Washington and later joined the Seattle Sounders, helping the team win several championships.

Roldan chose to represent the United States in international soccer, despite being eligible to play for Guatemala or El Salvador, the countries of his parents’ birth. He made his international debut in 2017 and has since earned 45 caps, helping the United States win two Gold Cup titles.

World Cup Schedule

The 2026 World Cup kicked off on June 12, with the United States playing Paraguay in their first match. The tournament will feature 48 teams, with the top two teams in each group and the eight best third-place finishers advancing to the Round of 32.
