Florida GOP Withdraws Invite to Gubernatorial Candidate

The Republican Party of Florida has rescinded its invitation to gubernatorial candidate James Fishback to participate in the Sunshine State Showdown and other official primary events. This decision comes after Fishback announced his plans to hold a separate, unsanctioned debate, which the party says directly breaks its rules.

Reasons Behind the Decision

According to RPOF Chairman Evan Power, Fishback’s statement about holding a debate on July 15, with or without fellow candidate Byron Donalds, crossed the line and made it clear that he planned to move forward with a rival event. Power also addressed Fishback’s conduct, stating that the candidate has continued to make antisemitic and racist attacks against members of the party.

Party leaders noted that Fishback’s recent remarks in Tallahassee contained baseless accusations and falsehoods about the state GOP and its leadership. They accused him of putting personal ambition above the integrity of the election by repeatedly attacking fellow Republicans.

The Florida GOP emphasized that its focus remains on running an orderly and transparent primary as it gears up to defeat Democrats in the upcoming elections.
