Hope Amidst Tragedy
In the hard-hit city of La Guaira, remnants of people’s lives can be seen in the rubble of collapsed homes and apartment buildings. Despite the tragedy, there are moments of hope, with rescue teams working tirelessly to find survivors.
Genesis Fonseca, who lost her sister in the earthquake, said she will miss everything about her. Keyla Zerpa’s nephew, Kenger, was rescued on Saturday, but her sister did not survive. Zerpa called for more support and help from the US.
US diplomat John Barrett said there are over 300 American rescuers on the ground in Venezuela. Secretary of State Marco Rubio offered the full assistance of the US to Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodríguez.
