The United States government has launched a massive humanitarian response to the devastating earthquake in Venezuela, which has claimed the lives of over 900 people. The relief operation involves deploying more than 250 search-and-rescue personnel, activating regional military assets for logistical support, setting up free Starlink satellite internet, and committing $150 million in financial aid to assist survivors and emergency workers on the ground.
Rescue Efforts
Central to the rescue efforts are three elite Urban Search-and-Rescue teams from Fairfax County, Virginia; Los Angeles County, California; and Miami-Dade County, Florida. These highly trained units are transporting more than 200,000 pounds of specialized equipment using U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft.
The US has also pledged a total of $150 million in emergency funding, with $100 million being directed to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Venezuela pooled fund, and the remaining $50 million being distributed through bilateral awards to prominent international humanitarian organizations already operating on the ground.
