A US couple, Jeffrey Davidson and Walter Zak, have made the unexpected decision to leave their home in Florida and retire in Greece. The couple, who had previously never set foot in the European country, are now settled in the Peloponnese region and are enjoying the rich history and culture that Greece has to offer.

A New Chapter

Jeffrey and Walter, who met 32 years ago, had always thought about moving abroad but never thought it would be to Greece. However, after a 10-day cruise around the Greek islands and a visit to Thessaloniki, the city where Walter’s grandfather was born, they fell in love with the country and decided to make the move.

The couple took advantage of the Greek Golden Visa program, which allows non-EU nationals to secure EU residency through real estate investment. They purchased a home in the village of Platanos for €400,000 and have been enjoying the warm weather and the local culture.

Settling In

Although they have had to adapt to the later restaurant opening times and the daily Greek siesta, the couple has settled into their new life in Greece. They have made friends with the locals and are enjoying the food, the scenery, and the relaxed pace of life.

Jeffrey and Walter are grateful for the opportunity to experience a new culture and to live in a country with such a rich history. They are excited to see what the future holds and are happy to have made the decision to leave their old life behind and start anew in Greece.
