Mikel Brown Jr., a former University of Louisville (UofL) player, is projected to be one of the top picks in the 2026 NBA Draft. The first round begins Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
UofL’s Rich NBA Draft History
Brown started 19 games and played in 21 in one season at UofL. He averaged 18.2 points per game and led the team with 99 assists. However, he missed 14 games with a back injury and did not suit up for the Cards in the ACC or NCAA Tournaments.
UofL head coach Pat Kelsey will not be in New York with Brown. Kelsey said that Brown’s accomplishments should not be overlooked, citing his freshman scoring record in Louisville history, where he made 40 something points and ten threes.
Brown tied Wes Unseld’s single-game school record when he scored 45 points against N.C. State on February 9, also equaling the school record with 10 made three-pointers. He also scored 29 points in a 96-88 win over arch-rival Kentucky on November 11.
A total of 13 former UofL players have been top 10 picks in the NBA Draft, including Samaki Walker, who was selected No. 9 in 1996.
