University of Tennessee Receives $130 Million from Alumni Dee and Jimmy Haslam

The University of Tennessee in Knoxville has announced a significant $130 million investment from alumni Dee and Jimmy Haslam. This generous contribution is set to bolster the university’s academic and faculty resources, marking a historic moment for the institution.

Enhancing Business Education

Of the total investment, $100 million is earmarked for the Haslam College of Business. This funding aims to attract distinguished faculty and support student success initiatives, including graduate student scholarships and undergraduate honors programs. The college, which boasts the largest undergraduate population at the university, stands to benefit greatly from this infusion of resources.

Chancellor Donde Plowman expressed gratitude for the Haslams’ vision and generosity, stating, “This historic investment will help fuel our high standard of excellence and grow the impact our university has on the people and communities we serve across Tennessee and beyond.”

University-Wide Faculty Recruitment

The remaining $30 million will support a campus-wide effort to recruit faculty across various academic disciplines, further enhancing the university’s educational offerings.

The Haslams, who are Knoxville natives, have a long history of supporting the university. Their contributions have spanned multiple areas, including athletics and scholarships, and have been instrumental in the endowment of the Haslam College of Business, the university’s first named college.

In a statement, the Haslams shared their deep connection to the university, saying, “The University of Tennessee has always held a meaningful place in our lives, and we are truly honored to give back to an institution that has given us so much.”

Brian Broyles, senior vice chancellor for advancement, highlighted the significance of the Haslams’ donation, noting that it reflects the Volunteer spirit and the power of the university to change lives.
