University of Arkansas students meet 120 employers at Walton Fall Career Fair

Students from the Sam Walton School of Business at the University of Arkansas gathered at Bud Walton Arena for the final day of the Walton Fall Career Fair, a key local event that connects graduating seniors with regional employers.

Strong employer turnout supports local job growth

The fair featured 120 employers on Thursday and 60 on Wednesday, offering a broad spectrum of opportunities in logistics, technology, finance, and more. Among the participants was Arkansas‑based freight carrier ArcBest, which highlighted its focus on entry‑level positions despite fluctuating hiring rates.

ArcBest recruiter Allison Carroll explained that the company is closely monitoring how artificial intelligence (AI) impacts its workforce. “They’re very curious about how that affects the entry‑level workforce at ArcBest. That’s something we are taking into account,” Carroll said. “We love to develop our leaders, and so we are making sure that we’re making good AI decisions where we’re not eliminating our workforce.”

Students voice optimism about AI and career prospects

Supply chain and marketing senior Katelyn Bunce expressed enthusiasm for the dialogue around AI. “With a world ever changing and AI becoming such a staple within companies and within day‑to‑day research, having curious thinkers, having people that are stepping out of their comfort zone to share their opinion about how they feel about something… finding that courage within themselves is something that I would love to see,” Bunce said.

When asked about the most important factor in evaluating potential employers, Bunce noted, “You really just see the passion and the love that they have for the company. And that is exactly what I’m looking for. Because when I believe in something, I am the hardest worker I know.”

Graduating class poised for post‑college success

The university reports that of the 2025 graduating class—about 8,300 students—approximately 5,500 have concrete post‑graduation career plans. The career fair serves as a vital bridge, helping students translate classroom learning into real‑world employment.

Local businesses and larger firms alike see the event as an investment in the state’s future workforce. By engaging directly with students, employers can shape talent pipelines that align with emerging industry needs, especially as AI and automation become more prevalent.

Community impact and future outlook

University officials view the Walton Fall Career Fair as a cornerstone of Arkansas’s economic development strategy. By fostering connections between higher‑education institutions and the private sector, the fair supports both job creation and the retention of skilled graduates within the state.

As the job market continues to evolve, the university plans to expand AI‑focused workshops and networking sessions in future fairs, ensuring that Arkansas students remain competitive on a national scale while reinforcing the state’s commitment to family‑friendly, faith‑grounded values.
