University Avenue in Saint Paul has become a destination for beauty services, with a variety of local businesses offering everything from barbering and braiding to natural hair care and styling.
Hidden GEMS Campaign
The Hidden GEMS campaign, facilitated by the Neighborhood Development Center and supported by the City of Saint Paul’s Commercial Corridor Program, is highlighting the many businesses along University Avenue, including those in the beauty industry.
From CJ African Hair and Privilege Barber Lounge near Victoria Station to Collective Salon Studios and King Milan’s Barber Shop near Western Station, there are many unique and talented beauty professionals to discover.
Angela Walker, owner of Crown Garden at Collective Salon Studios, says serving her clients in the heart of Frogtown empowers her and motivates her to continuously elevate her business.
King Milan’s Barber Shop owner Milan Dennie has also launched a youth barber training program, providing opportunities for young people to develop career skills and confidence.
