A United Airlines flight bound for Minneapolis was diverted to Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday night due to a security incident involving an unruly passenger. The incident occurred on United Flight 2005, which had departed from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
According to air traffic control audio, crew members reported that a 75-year-old passenger made multiple attempts to breach the cockpit. Fortunately, law enforcement personnel on board were able to restrain and handcuff the individual before any harm could occur.
Response and Investigation
Upon landing in Madison around 9:30 p.m., the flight was met by Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies, who arrested the passenger. The Dane County Sheriff’s Department later revealed that the man was experiencing a mental health crisis, which contributed to his actions during the flight.
The FBI Milwaukee’s Madison Resident Agency is currently handling the investigation. They have advised that no criminal charges be pursued against the passenger, given the circumstances of his mental health condition. The man’s family, residing in Minnesota, has been notified and is traveling to Madison to reunite with him.
