United Federal Credit Union gives $20,000 to aid Hawk Fire victims in Northern Nevada

In a clear demonstration of community‑focused stewardship, United Federal Credit Union announced a $20,000 donation to assist residents affected by the recent Hawk Fire in Northern Nevada. The contribution is divided evenly, with $10,000 earmarked for Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada and $10,000 for the American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter.

Immediate relief and long‑term recovery

The American Red Cross will channel its portion of the funds into rapid‑response operations, including emergency shelter, meals, and essential supplies for families who have lost homes or been displaced by the blaze. “Donations like this help ensure the Red Cross has the people, supplies and resources ready to respond when disasters strike,” said Bridget Posson, Executive Director of the Red Cross Northern Nevada.

Catholic Charities will use its share to provide longer‑term assistance, such as case management, counseling, and ongoing support as families rebuild their lives. “This gift will help us meet immediate needs while also giving our team the ability to walk alongside individuals and families through the longer recovery ahead,” explained Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada.

Credit union’s broader support for members

Beyond the charitable grant, United Federal Credit Union has rolled out a suite of relief measures for its own members impacted by the wildfire. Eligible members can take advantage of loan payment deferrals, emergency lending options, waived fees and other financial accommodations designed to ease the burden of displacement and property loss.

“As a community‑focused credit union, we believe it is our responsibility to stand beside our neighbors during difficult times,” said Meredith Williams, Senior Vice President of Retail for United Federal Credit Union. “The devastating impact of these wildfires extends far beyond the immediate emergency. Families are facing displacement, property loss, and uncertainty about what comes next. Through our partnerships with Catholic Charities and the American Red Cross, we hope this donation will provide meaningful support for both immediate needs and the long‑term recovery process.”

Local collaboration strengthens response

The two nonprofit partners are already coordinating efforts on the ground, sharing resources and information to maximize aid delivery. Their joint work underscores the importance of collaborative, faith‑based, and volunteer‑driven responses in times of crisis, reinforcing the community’s resilience.

Residents of Northern Nevada can expect the donated funds to help secure shelter, food, and essential services in the weeks ahead, while the credit union’s member‑focused programs aim to keep households financially stable as they rebuild. The combined effort reflects a broader commitment from local institutions to protect families, uphold Christian values of charity, and preserve the fabric of the community during one of the region’s most challenging disasters.
