Two Plano Massage Schools Shut Down Due to Fraudulent Practices

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has taken decisive action against two massage schools in Plano, Texas, ordering their closure due to fraudulent activities. The schools were found to have submitted inaccurate and inconsistent student hour records, compromising the integrity of the licensure and examination processes.

According to a TDLR news release, students at these schools sometimes performed services without the required licensed supervision. Additionally, there were concerns about illicit massage businesses and suspected human trafficking activities linked to these institutions.

TDLR Executive Director Courtney Arbor emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the massage therapy profession, stating, “We will not tolerate fraudulent conduct that undermines that profession and puts the public at risk. At the same time, we are committed to supporting students who followed the law and holding bad actors accountable.”

Most of the students enrolled at these schools were from outside Texas, with a significant number coming from New York and California. The department has also revoked the therapist and instructor licenses of the owner of both schools. An emergency order has been issued to prevent the schools from operating unless otherwise authorized.

Next Steps for Students

Impacted students are advised to submit documentation to verify their hours or voluntarily surrender the hours to enroll in another approved school, as per the TDLR website. Current massage therapists and instructors who received their licenses from the two Plano schools will need to provide documentation at the time of their next license renewal.

The schools in question were located at 2001 Coit Road, Ste. 204, Plano, and 621 West Plano Parkway, Ste. 241, Plano. More information can be found on their website and social media platforms.
