The Twin City Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, a nationwide nonprofit organization founded in 1964, honored ladies between 90 and 99 years old at its Annual Nonagenarian Celebration Saturday morning in Texarkana, Texas.
Mission and Purpose
The chapter’s main purpose is to support the Top Teens of America, its youth group for ages 13 to 18, by teaching them about finances, etiquette, and helping them build skills to be successful in life. The organization also helps children become community and service-minded as they work in conjunction with the ladies.
According to Twin City Chapter President Shelia Dukes, it is heartfelt to see how the youth have matriculated and an honor to see the positive impact the organization has had on young people. The Top Ladies of Distinction also supports St. Jude and other worthy organizations, including the March of Dimes.
The celebration, which has been held for 18 years, spotlights individuals who are 90 years old and older, including centenarians. Donors’ funding supports the Top Teens and is used for outreach to the March of Dimes and St. Jude.
