President Donald Trump took the stage at the Washington Hilton on Friday to address attendees at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference, centering his remarks on the threat of what he termed “creeping communism” inside the United States.
Warning of a Collapse
During his address, Trump used a hypothetical scenario to explain why he believes the ideology gains traction, arguing that its initial appeal relies on unrealistic promises that are easy to pitch to the public. “Communism is very easy to sell,” Trump said. “It destroys everything, but it’s very easy. I’d be — I’ll be honest, I think I’d be the greatest communist in history. I’d give free rent.”
He went on to mimic what a political platform based on those principles would sound like to the public. “Ladies and gentlemen, from now on, you don’t have to pay any rent,” Trump said. “From now on, anybody wants a house, don’t worry about it, just pick the house you want. Everybody gets free food. Everything is free from this point forward.”
Trump stated that while such a platform would guarantee widespread political support initially, the long-term consequences are always devastating for any nation that tries it. “Everyone is going to vote for me,” he told the crowd. “The problem is, after two or three years, the country is a disaster area. The country fails. They always do. It always does. So easy to sell. That first year, boy, you’re the most popular.”
A Warning to the Nation
According to Trump, these ideological shifts are already manifesting in certain parts of the country. He specifically pointed to two major states as current examples of this decline. “It’s happening right now in New York and California,” he claimed.
He warned the audience that the ultimate end result of these policies is an absolute breakdown of basic societal structures, leaving citizens to face severe deprivation. “But you’ll start living in squalor. You’ll live in squalor,” Trump said. “There will be no food. There will be no housing. There will be no military. There will be no law and order. There will be no nothing. There will be no nothing. You’ll be a third-world inhabitant in every way, and everyone will suffer or die. You’ll suffer or die. That’s what happens.”
