Palm Beach County Mayor Sara Baxter announced her intention to run for Florida’s newly redrawn 22nd Congressional District on June 8. However, Donald Trump expressed his preference for her to stay in her commission seat in a Truth Social post on Thursday night.

In his post, Trump said, ‘Sara Baxter is a fantastic person, and highly qualified for many top political jobs but, on a somewhat selfish basis, I would rather have her stay on the Palm Beach County Commission (where so many important things are happening!), than run for Congress. Thank you Sara!’

Baxter, a Republican, filed paperwork for her congressional campaign and stated she would not seek reelection to the County Commission. Her decision to run for Congress includes western regions of Palm Beach and Broward counties, as well as parts of rural Hendry and Collier counties.
