President Donald Trump recently addressed concerns about the USS Abraham Lincoln’s lengthy deployment, stating that the ship’s time at sea was not nearly long enough. The aircraft carrier has been deployed for nearly nine months, supporting operations in the Middle East.
Deployment Details
The USS Abraham Lincoln left its home port of San Diego last November and has been at sea for over 250 days, with roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines on board. The ship has not made a port call in more than 200 days, setting a modern-day record for consecutive days at sea.
Several Democratic lawmakers have called for answers regarding the living conditions and mental health of the sailors aboard the Lincoln. However, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that conditions on the ship had been ‘completely misrepresented.’
The USS George Washington carrier group is set to replace the Lincoln in the Middle East, with the swap having been previously planned. The exact timing of the replacement is not yet clear.
