President Donald Trump announced that the new Air Force One plane, a gift from Qatar, will undergo significant upgrades to enhance its security features. The plane, which has been in use since July 1, was initially criticized for its lack of missile-defense capabilities.
Upgrades and Controversy
Trump stated that the plane will be sent for upgrades in about a month, which will take approximately a month to complete. The new plane was refitted by defense contractor L3Harris Technologies and features a unique red, white, dark blue, and gold livery chosen by Trump.
The Air Force did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the upgrades. The new plane is meant to serve as a temporary replacement for the next-generation Air Force One planes, which are currently being developed by Boeing under a $3.9 billion contract.
