The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that a lettuce sample from Taylor Farms de Mexico initially tested positive for cyclospora, a parasite linked to a growing outbreak of “explosive diarrhea”, was later found to be a false positive.
Investigation Ongoing
Despite the correction, the FDA is continuing to work with Taylor Farms to ensure any products implicated in the outbreak are removed from the market. The agency has advised consumers not to eat shredded iceberg lettuce from Mexico served at Taco Bell locations in several states.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed over 1,600 cases of cyclosporiasis and is investigating more than 5,100 additional illnesses. No deaths have been reported.
