President Donald Trump has accused China of working to influence the results of the 2020 presidential election, describing the effort as part of a broader campaign to undermine his presidency.
China’s Response
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, dismissed the allegations as ‘entirely fabricated’ and aimed at vilifying China. Jian emphasized that China has no interest in interfering in US elections and has never done so.
Trump cited newly released documents, which he claims show that the Chinese Communist Party’s policy was to leverage all domestic and foreign elements opposed to the US president in an effort to reduce his votes and make him resign or prevent his reelection.
The Trump administration also announced that it will drastically shorten visas for foreign journalists in the US, including those from China, in response to the alleged interference.
