A pickup truck crashed into two separate apartment units in Palm River, Florida, on Tuesday morning, leaving two children hospitalized with serious injuries. According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, emergency dispatchers received several 911 calls at approximately 9:38 a.m. reporting the incident on Palm Bay Drive.
First-arriving crews found a vehicle that had struck two units. A preliminary investigation indicates the driver backed into one apartment before pulling forward and hitting a second building, resulting in structural damage to both. Firefighters evacuated both structures and searched the interiors for remaining occupants.
Two pediatric patients who were inside one of the impacted units were transported to a local hospital in serious condition. Crews also rescued a dog unharmed from one of the evacuated apartments. No first responders were injured during the response.
Hillsborough County Code Enforcement personnel were called to the scene to assess the structural integrity of the damaged buildings. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
