Truck collides with toll booth on SR‑417 near Curry Ford Road in Orange County

Orange County emergency responders were called to State Road 417 at Curry Ford Road shortly after 8:00 a.m. Thursday after a truck rammed into a toll booth near mile marker 30.0, just before the off‑ramp leading to Curry Ford Road.

Location and immediate impact

The collision occurred on the northbound side of the highway, where the left travel lane and the right shoulder have been blocked by the damaged toll structure. Traffic was diverted to the remaining lanes, and motorists were advised to reduce speed and follow posted detour signs.

Response by authorities

Orange County Fire‑Rescue and the Florida Highway Patrol arrived on scene within minutes. First‑responders secured the area, cleared debris, and began a preliminary assessment of the truck driver and any potential passengers. At the time of reporting, officials had not released details about injuries or the cause of the crash.

Investigation underway

Highway patrol investigators are gathering evidence, including dash‑cam footage and any available black‑box data from the truck, to determine why the vehicle failed to stop before the toll booth. The investigation will also consider road conditions, weather, and possible mechanical issues.

Impact on commuters

Motorists traveling north on SR‑417 were instructed to use the right‑most lane and to expect delays of up to 15 minutes during the morning rush hour. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) posted updates on its website and social media channels, urging drivers to check real‑time traffic maps before traveling the corridor.

Safety reminders

Officials reminded drivers to maintain a safe following distance, especially on high‑speed toll roads, and to stay alert for construction or incident alerts that can appear suddenly. The FDOT continues to monitor the situation and will reopen the blocked lane once the toll booth is repaired and the site is deemed safe.

Next steps

FDOT engineers are scheduled to assess the damaged toll equipment later Thursday afternoon. Repairs are expected to take several hours, after which normal traffic flow should resume. The highway patrol will release a full report once the investigation is complete.
