Troy Jackson, a former Maine Senate President, has built a significant advantage in the contest to replace Graham Platner and challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins in the US Senate election.
Maine Democrats’ Nomination
Delegates on Jackson’s slate won approximately 300 of the 319 slots available during the first day of county-level delegate selection for the July 25 convention. If these delegates remain supportive, Jackson would have the necessary backing to secure the nomination.
Jackson previously campaigned alongside Platner and has presented himself as the candidate best positioned to continue Platner’s progressive movement. He has a more understated style than Platner but has directly appealed to Platner’s former supporters.
Policy Positions
Jackson supports the universal healthcare program known as ‘Medicare for All,’ raising taxes on billionaires, and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He also opposes military aid to Israel, a topic of division among Democrats.
Jackson has been involved in Maine politics for over two decades, serving as the state Senate President from 2018 to 2024. His experience and policy positions make him a strong contender for the nomination.
