Louisville’s Adaptive Recreation Showcase is set to take place on July 25, featuring 13 adaptive sports and recreation activities for people with disabilities. The event, hosted by Gathering Strength, a Louisville-based disability-led nonprofit, aims to show people with disabilities the many opportunities available in the Louisville community while encouraging everyone to better understand the importance of accessibility and inclusion.

The event will include activities such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, handcycling, track and field, archery, and fishing. Organizers say adaptive recreation is about more than just sports, as it can help improve physical health, mental health, independence, and social connection.
According to Gathering Strength, more than one in three adults in Kentucky lives with a disability. People with disabilities are at increased risk for health conditions, including heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes, but physical activity can help reduce those risks.
The event was founded by Elizabeth Fust, an attorney and spinal cord injury survivor who turned her own experience into a mission focused on helping others discover independence through wellness programming, community connection, and adaptive recreation.
The event will take place at the University of Louisville Student Activities Center on South Floyd Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to attend, with free parking available.
