Tribal police continue search for missing Jory Low Dog, pause ground ops due to winter weather

Rapid City, South Dakota – The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Police announced Monday night that the search for missing 19‑year‑old Jory Low Dog is still ongoing, but ground operations have been suspended because of extreme winter weather and hazardous road conditions.

In a Facebook post, tribal officials emphasized that investigators are still pursuing every tip and lead received from the community. “We appreciate the volunteers who have helped so far and want everyone to know Jory has not been forgotten,” the post read.

According to the tribal police, the decision to pause ground searches was made out of an abundance of caution for both officers and volunteers. Snow, ice, and limited visibility on rural routes have made travel dangerous, and the department does not want to risk additional injuries while trying to locate Jory.

Despite the pause in on‑the‑ground efforts, the investigation continues to move forward. Officers are monitoring phone calls, reviewing surveillance footage, and coordinating with neighboring law‑enforcement agencies. The tribal police also asked anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact them immediately.

How the community can help

Tribal police stressed the importance of community involvement. Volunteers have been instrumental in covering large areas of terrain, setting up search grids, and providing logistical support. The department urged anyone who sees or hears anything related to Jory’s disappearance to call the tribal police line at (605) 555‑0123.

Local residents have responded with an outpouring of support, posting messages of concern on social media and offering assistance to the search teams. Faith‑based groups and family‑focused organizations have also expressed their prayers and solidarity with Jory’s family.

What’s next

While ground operations remain on hold, the tribal police plan to resume searches as soon as weather conditions improve. In the meantime, they will continue to analyze all incoming information and maintain communication with the family.

The tribe’s spokesperson reminded the public that the search area covers both tribal lands and surrounding public lands, and that cooperation between tribal, state, and local agencies is essential for a successful outcome.

Anyone with tips can reach the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Police by phone, email, or through their official Facebook page. The department thanked the community for its patience and ongoing support during this challenging time.
