Rapid City, SD – The RSVP+ donation drive, supporting Cornerstone Rescue Mission and local veterans, will close this Wednesday. Organizers have already collected more than 1,000 items from last year’s drive, but they still need essential winter apparel.
Coats are the top priority
Darrell Shoemaker, public information officer for Rapid City, said coats are the most urgent item. “If there’s one item that’s really needed at this point in time is coats,” Shoemaker explained. “They only have about ten coats that have been donated up to this point.” He added that recent cold snaps on Sunday and Monday have heightened the need for warm outerwear.
What donors can give
In addition to coats, the drive is seeking new socks, underwear, hats and gloves. All items should be new or gently used. The mission will distribute the clothing to veterans who rely on Cornerstone Rescue Mission for shelter and support during the harsh winter months.
How to donate
Donations can be dropped off at RSVP+ locations in Spearfish and Rapid City. Organizers ask donors to call ahead to confirm that staff are available to receive items, helping to keep the drop‑off process smooth and safe.
Community impact
Cornerstone Rescue Mission serves veterans and families in need throughout the Black Hills region. By contributing warm clothing, residents help ensure that those who have served our country stay safe and comfortable when temperatures drop below freezing.
The RSVP+ drive is part of a broader effort by local nonprofits and civic groups to address basic needs during the winter season. Volunteers continue to sort and distribute donations, and they encourage anyone who can spare a few items to participate before the deadline.
