The trial of Javier Rosado-Martinez, accused of raping and murdering 93-year-old Dolores Padilla Marrero in Orange County, has begun. Rosado-Martinez, 58, could face the death penalty if found guilty.
Case Details
Padilla Marrero was found dead in her senior-living apartment in east Orlando the day after celebrating her birthday with family. Rosado-Martinez, the estranged boyfriend of the victim’s daughter, is the accused.
Assistant State Attorney Allison Walker stated that the evidence will point to Rosado-Martinez, who allegedly sexually battered and killed Padilla Marrero. Surveillance cameras captured Rosado-Martinez entering the building, and he had called the victim’s landline phone the night she was killed. DNA evidence and pictures of Padilla Marrero’s nude deceased body found on his phone also link him to the crime.
The defense attorney, Stephen Krejci, asked the jury to keep an open mind and think critically about the evidence, suggesting that Padilla Marrero had been at a bar before the murder and did not remember anything until many hours later.
