Treasure Valley Weekend Highlights: Fair, Warbirds, Art, Dogs, Garden Expansion

Summer is winding down, but the Treasure Valley still has plenty of family‑friendly activities for the weekend of August 28‑30. Below are six events that showcase local culture, faith‑centered community gatherings, and opportunities for families to enjoy the outdoors together.

The Western Idaho Fair wraps up its three‑day run at Expo Idaho in Garden City. Gates open Friday at noon and close at 11 p.m.; Saturday runs 11 a.m.‑11 p.m., and Sunday ends at 10 p.m. Country star Lee Brice headlines the Grandstand concert on Friday at 7:30 p.m., with admission included in the fair ticket. Students enjoy half‑price entry on Friday from noon‑4 p.m. The fair continues to offer rides, animal exhibits, live entertainment, and classic fair food.

Warbird Roundup Returns to Nampa

The 24th annual Warbird Roundup takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Warhawk Air Museum and Nampa Municipal Airport. Visitors can watch historic aircraft, including an F‑35A Lightning II flying alongside a World War II P‑47D Thunderbolt. Admission is $35 for adults, $28 for seniors, veterans and active‑duty military, and free for children ten and younger. Complimentary shuttles run from the Ford Idaho Center starting at 7 a.m.

Art Spark at Kleiner Park, Meridian

Meridian’s Community Art Party re‑imagines its annual celebration as Art Spark, debuting Saturday from 11 a.m.‑7 p.m. at Kleiner Park. The free event features live music, art demonstrations, a chalk‑art competition, food, drinks, and a beer garden. Families can enjoy hands‑on activities and watch local artists create murals throughout the day.

Bogus Basin National Public Lands Day

Saturday’s National Public Lands Day celebration at Bogus Basin offers free yoga on the mountain (10‑11 a.m.), a scenic tour (1‑2 p.m.), and live music on the patio with Ron Wood (2‑5 p.m.). The celebration runs noon‑4 p.m., but visitors can spend the entire day enjoying the mountain’s summer recreation.

Nampa’s Pooch Party at Lakeview Water Park

Dog owners can bring their pets to Lakeview Water Park for the 18th annual Pooch Party Saturday, 8:30 a.m.‑1 p.m. Activities include a one‑mile walk, swimming, a foam party, vendors, raffles, and canine cake walks. Registration is $35 for the first dog and $15 for each additional dog, with a $20 VIP swim option. Proceeds support Nampa’s dog parks.

Idaho Botanical Garden Expansion Grand Opening

The Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise celebrates the public opening of the first phase of its “Community Grows Here” expansion, adding ten acres to the garden. Members receive an early preview Saturday 10 a.m.‑noon; the public celebration runs noon‑5 p.m. with live music, food trucks, and family activities. New features include a Parking Garden, the Borbonus Family Educational Arboretum, and a Regence BlueShield of Idaho event lawn. Temporary parking is available near the Table Rock Trailhead.
